What is Gaga?

Gaga is the movement language developed by the genius of Ohad Naharin over many years, alongside his work as a choreographer and former artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv.

Gaga was born from Naharin’s need to communicate with his dancers and his incredible curiosity in the continuous search for movement.

Gaga classes are based on a deep activation of the body and physical sensations. Instructions are given thoughtfully, aimed at increasing awareness and amplifying sensations. Instead of moving quickly from one suggestion to another, information is layered, becoming multisensory and increasingly physically demanding.

Although many instructions are rich with imagery, Gaga’s research is fundamentally physical, focusing on a specific process of embodiment. Within this shared exploration, the improvisational nature allows each participant to develop a deeply personal connection with Gaga.

Gaga provides a structure to discover, strengthen, and add flexibility, endurance, and agility to the body, refining skills such as coordination and efficiency while stimulating the senses and imagination.

Classes offer a training that explores form, speed, and effort, moving across very different spectrums—soft and thick textures, delicacy and explosive power—always pushing boundaries.

Participants awaken insensitive areas, increase awareness of habitual patterns, and improve movement efficiency across multi-level tasks, being encouraged to connect with pleasure even during moments of exertion.

Gaga’s research is an ongoing process of evolution.

Gaga has two main modes: Gaga/people and Gaga/dancers.

Gaga/people is open to the general public and accessible without prior experience.

Gaga/dancers is for professional dancers and dance students.

Gaga has strongly contributed to shaping some of the most important dancers and choreographers in contemporary dance.
